Untitled Happy Painting

Around December 2009 or so, one of my fniends asked for a painting that she could hang up in her new apartment. Feeling the need to make a big painting for personal pleasure anyways, I was more than happy to oblige. I had to tell myself from the very beginning, that I was going to give it away, since I typically have a tough time giving away my work because I become so attached to the work.

I realized just before I made this work that my subjects are typically dull, with dead pan expressions and stagnant body language. So for this piece I really tried to push the expressiveness in the face and the angle of the torso. Overall I'm very proud of how well it all turned out, and I still feel like this is one of my best works in recent times. She absolutely loves it and its hanging in her apartment where she gets multiple compliments every time she has parties.

An Opportunity-Fetish Sketches

A couple of months ago, I was contacted by a long time friend about a possible opportunity to do some illustration work. I was obviously interested, and I went up to meet the client. Turns out he owns a Fetish club, which I thought was pretty dang cool and interesting. And I wound up going to a meeting for his club and it was peculiar to say the least. Anyways, I did some sketches and put them on a CD for him just to show that I had an ability to do some work that was within the fetish genre, and he was impressed.

Done in about a half hour, just a quickie to show my knowledge of figurative art.

Done as a possible mural sketch for one of the walls in the club.

Done several weeks later, just as an exercise to return to the genre.

Overall, I find the aesthetics of sexual fetishes pretty interesting. That may sound crazy or wacky to "normal" people, but being an artist I'm used to the judging eyes of the rest of society I suppose. Anyways, We'll see if I return to the subject matter sometime soon, as it keeps me intrigued on a regular basis.

Long Overdue Update

First off I must apologize thoroughly to the few people who follow this blog now as most probably think that I had given up on this page. I am still alive, still willing, still motivated, or what excuse have you. I have been ridiculously busy with school and life and such. My life drawing for animation class is perhaps the most time consuming class I have taken in recent years in terms of arm workouts. Doing gestures will take a lot out of you in a 6 hour class. regardless, I now realize I haven't updated since October 2009, nearly 7 months, and I am deeply sorry. I can be so forgetful sometimes. So allow me to update you with the next several posts.

Dirty, Dirty Flapper

This wasn't in the show, due to the obvious adult themed content of the piece.

I'm very excited about the success I had with the shine effects on her latex clothing :)

Healthcare

More filler pieces for my show. This one was done in the span of about 4 hours, but it was the piece that got the most attention at the show. I guess the gruesome imagery of it comes from my own feelings towards the health care system. Every time Democrats and Republicans start arguing about universal health care, socialism, and how they think Obama is a nazi (not true in case you were wondering) I'm almost compelled to drive a pair of sharp sheers through my temple. I chose for her to be a nurse and wrapped in gauze, because I felt it would make more easily recognizable as a piece about something relatively close to the faulty health care system...

I'm very satisfied with the results, and am finding myself more and more attracted to black illustration boards, even though its impossible to erase without destroying the surface...

The Constant Companion

This is a piece I did in order to fill up space for my art show. All things considered, I'm pretty satisfied with how this piece came out. I feel that the anatomy is a bit off and slightly stiff, but they can't all be winners...

I've never worked on wood/particle board before, aside from my drawing board. I'm pretty pleased with how bright some of the colors came out, compared to my drawing board
